The Nigerian expectation, experimental governance
It is said that experience is the best teacher as practice makes perfection, the face to the change Nigeria most clearly crave is of a positive, but as a true Nigerian, weighing the possibility of grabbing another kind of luck, call it ill if you will, is not out of question, but I don't pray for a negative turn to our national kaleidoscope.
The polity is calm right now, the wind of change is at its fever pitch, so real you can even touch it, the people expect the government to hit the ground running once sworn in on may 29 2014, the people just can't wait for this dawn of a new day, the birth of a new era, with the new political party in power, we expect a new manifesto to serve as their guiding scripture.
For sixteen years we have been ruled by a party, for sixteen years we have worshiped the same God (PDP) and trust the same scripture as our guiding light (PDP manifesto).
The peoples democratic party that vested its power in the people, has received its farewell notice since 2012 from the same people who expressed dissatisfaction in their manner of governance. The sacrosance of may 29 of every four years in our political calendar gives the feeling that no government or tenure lasts forever.
President Goodluck Jonathan
Nigerians as a people worries less about extravagant luxury and thus, does not place a larger than life or outrageous expectations on their leaders, infact, the standard we set is so low that even the leaders are often surprised by the level of praises we rain on them for their little effort.
The experiment we call change at the moment gives me the feeling of dejavous, back in 2011, the expectations that comes with the emergence of president Goodluck Jonathan was that of fresh air, fresh rules to the game and also fresh innovative policies that would lead to the resurrection of the dying citizenry, four years later, we are back on the same chapter of expectations and experimentation, the president elect is experienced but the modus operandi of his political party is something we are Yet to experience, like the tale of the man with the yam and the knife, he'll be in possession of all the resources of the state and what he does with them determines whether he get pats or sticks from the people in four years time (2019), we are expected to be patient but we can guarantee the new government that we are not going to let them take us for a ride, we shall hold them to their promises, we shall support them but also condemn their misdeeds, I hope I'm speaking the minds of Nigerians?, we shall not tolerate impunity and mismanagement, the repositioning, provision and fixing of power in our country is a must (non negotiable), finally and most importantly is to put an end to the rip off by the cabal and beneficiaries of the fuel subsidy funds by fixing our refineries and stopping fuel importation.
WE ARE WATCHING!!
